Our Shop Projects
1956 XK140 Roadster

Our customer [Scott] began this '56 XK140 roadster project with only a frame and an engine. He asked us to find and build a body for him.

With only 3281 left-hand drive XK140 roadsters leaving the factory, this is a rare old car. Usable spare body parts will be very tough to find and will make this a challenging restoration.

This is an ongoing project and will be on documented on this website over the next 6-8 months.

Page Summary:
Pictured here is the rear clip we found in Michigan. It had to be straightened and a panel welded into the rear deck area where we cut out the damaged area. The clip was then sandblasted. We bought a used boot lid and fit it to the rear clip. Next, we located 1&1/2 rear fenders and a dog leg and fit them to the clip. Metal patches on the fenders were welded in where needed followed by a thorough sandblasting.

A special Thank You to Mike Muller in Austin Texas for helping us locate some very difficult-to-find parts for this car, including:

  • rear clip,
  • front clip,
  • right door,
  • rear skirts,
  • and many other parts.

Sandblasting the clip.       A used boot lid is fitted to the rear clip. Rear fender is being massaged into shape.
Repairing one of the replacement rear fenders.   Metal patches are welded onto the fenders where needed.
Mike Muller in Austin, Texas found us a set of skirts; we adapted the fender openings to fit the skirts.
